Stories of Success
Dr Catriona Wallace | Founder & CEO - Flamingo
Having run a successful client services firm—and having identified a gap in the market—Catriona Wallace founded Flamingo, an artificial intelligence platform built to help the financial services industry sell products online. An alumnae of Springboard Enterprises Australia Accelerator, Wallace says the program has been fundamental to her success.
“I had zero idea about anything to do with technology and anything to do with capital. The SBE Australia Tech program helped me understand all of those inflection points, how to pitch, who to approach. It was how I learnt about the importance of capital and was fundamentally part of my startup’s growth story.”
Listing on the ASX in late 2016 for $24 million, the company is now trading with a market capitalisation of around $52 million.
Alison Hardacre | Co-founder & MD - HealthKit
Alison Hardacre is co-founder and managing director of HealthKit, a global platform that streamlines clinical administration for doctors, and brings together information and directories for patients to seek the best care. She speaks five Asian languages, was a Young Australian of the Year, and is an alumnae of 2014 Springboard Enterprises Tech Program.
Alison found our Springboard Enterprises Tech Program especially helpful when it came to raising capital. She feels her gender has been a factor in the past. “Investors are making calls about people, and about business models. Perceptions about gender can’t be separated from it unfortunately and that’s why SBE is really important, and raising questions about how you can tackle that.”
With the guidance and connections offered by SBE Australia, she is now preparing for a $5M round.
Rebecca Wilson | Founder & CEO - Starts at 60
Brisbane based Rebecca Wilson has turned her baby boomer website Starts at 60 into one of the country’s fastest growing media brands.
Named as a Deloitte Fast Starter, and shortlisted by Mumbrella as Media Brand of the Year, Wilson closed her first lucrative, funding round with Seven West Media in 2016. A 2015 Springboard Enterprises Tech Program alumnae, she credits SBE Australia as giving her the tools and confidence to negotiate the most important deal of her career.
“SBE Australia has helped normalise the journey of a female entrepreneur. The isolation of being a CEO is quite lonely, particularly somewhere like Brisbane where you’re not exposed to corporate networks as much. [SBE] gives you an idea of how hard, or how easy it is meant to be, which you need.”
